„Healthy and thriving bee colonies are my pride and joy.“
In the Dobruja region of Romania, Ionut Risitariu lives out his passion for nature. His journey into the world of bees began 16 years ago with just five colonies, which he raised with tremendous love and enthusiasm. These humble beginnings ignited a true passion: With assistance from his family, Ionut now cares for 170 bee colonies. What once began on such a small scale has now been transformed into a life’s work, characterised by a deep commitment to nature, in which caring for the bees and ensuring their harmonious growth is, for Ionut, the greatest reward of his daily labour.
The Risitariu family’s bees fly through a unique landscape, ranging from vast lime (linden) forests and the coastal area through to the wild flora of the Danube Delta. Particularly during the warm months from April to August, the colonies find a rich source of nectar in this temperate continental climate. Ionut takes great care to ensure a pristine environment for his bees. You can taste this deep sense of responsibility in every drop: Ionut captures the diversity of the region’s blossoms in his honeys, thereby creating honey with a distinctive aroma and character.
„For me, being a beekeeper means caring for the bees, understanding nature and working in complete harmony with it. It is not just a profession, but a genuine passion that requires patience, responsibility and a deep respect for our environment.“
