How our honey is created

From the sun’s rays into the jar

From the first blossom nectar to the finished honey in the jar, we oversee every step with the utmost diligence. Our aim is to preserve the natural authenticity of this remarkable natural product. The experience and craftsmanship of our beekeepers, combined with meticulous testing processes, ensure that the distinctive flavour and purity of our honeys are retained. We invite you to accompany us through the various stages of this fascinating journey.

Nature

Where it all begins
The origin of every honey lies in nature. The flora, the climate and the season shape its individual character and endow each honey with its own distinctive colour, consistency and flavour.

To produce honey, the bees primarily collect nectar from flowers. In forest regions, they furthermore gather honeydew, which they find on the needles and leaves of trees such as firs and spruces. Simultaneously, they pollinate numerous plants and collect pollen as an important food source for their colony. Small amounts of this pollen remain naturally preserved in the honey and later provide clues as to its botanical and geographical origin.

Bees

An extraordinary achievement
In a beehive, thousands of bees work together. The forager bees carry nectar or honeydew back to the hive, where the house bees enrich it with valuable nutrients. Through the natural fanning action of their wings, water is gradually drawn out of the honey until it finally reaches its typical consistency and durability.

Once the honey is fully matured, the bees seal the filled combs with a fine layer of wax. Only then is the honey ready for harvesting by the beekeepers.

Beekeepers

Craftsmanship with passion
Harvesting requires the right timing. Our experienced beekeepers carefully verify whether the honeycombs are fully capped. This natural seal guarantees that the honey is ripe and has retained its valuable properties.

Our beekeepers gently remove the honeycombs and carefully strip away the layer of wax. During the subsequent extraction, they rely purely on physics: The honey flows out of the cells solely through centrifugal force, without any application of heat. This “cold extraction” is crucial in order to preserve the delicate nutrients and the subtle aroma of your honey.

Bottling

Diligence all the way into the jar
Before each bottling process, our honey is gently sieved in order to remove, for example, fine wax particles. The natural pollen is retained during this process; it provides our experts with valuable clues as to the botanical and geographical origin of the honey.

Each honey is then brought to the consistency that best reflects its natural character. Some honeys crystallise particularly quickly and are stirred slowly and gently until they become smooth and creamy. Others remain naturally clear and liquid. Prior to bottling, the honey is also given sufficient time to rest. During this process, we take care to handle the honey with the utmost gentleness and ensure that it is not heated above 36 degrees Celsius, i.e. the temperature that prevails inside the beehive.

Only then is the honey bottled and finds its way into our iconic 6-sided jar or the dispenser.

A moment of indulgence

Your golden moment
At the end of the process, a natural product of the highest purity and quality is created. Every jar of Langnese honey reflects its origin, the diversity of its blossoms, and the work carried out through many meticulous steps. The flavours of our honeys are as varied as the landscapes from which they are derived – ranging from the mild and aromatic Rapeseed Honey, through the delicately floral Mountain Blossom Honey, and on to the intense Forest Honey.

Langnese honey is part of everyday life in so many delicious ways: spread on a breakfast roll, stirred into tea for natural sweetness, drizzled over your favourite lunch bowl, or even added to a cocktail. Our recipe ideas show just how versatile our honey can be.
