Beekeeping in the – sometimes remote – regions of New Zealand requires a great deal of experience, diligence and a deep understanding of nature. Amidst unspoilt landscapes, honeys of exceptional quality are produced – characterised by traditional knowledge, meticulous craftsmanship and the unique power of nature.

The Māori’s treasure

In New Zealand’s coastal regions and on the fringes of its forests grows the South Sea myrtle, better known as the manuka bush. This hardy plant withstands wind and weather and has been revered by the Māori for centuries due to its special properties.

Harvesting the precious manuka honey requires a great deal of patience and diligence, as the manuka plant flowers for only a short time each year. From the nectar of these flowers, a honey is created whose exceptional quality is characterised, amongst other things, by its natural methylglyoxal (MGO) content.
